Why tracking mutual funds across multiple AMCs in India feels harder than it should

I had my investments spread across a few AMCs. Nothing complicated. But every time I wanted to understand my portfolio, I found myself doing the same thing. Open one AMC site.Check a few funds. Google their returns. Switch to another app.Then finally go back to my search results. It worked. But it never felt simple. And more importantly, it never answered the one question I actually cared about. What is the true return for the fund i am researching right now ?

Researching Mutual funds in India feels very chaotic. Open a site. Check returns. Check AUM. Now go back and google for the fund, check value research. What about the 3Y returns? Is this a SIP? Oh, i cannot use the CAGR now. By now, i had 10 tabs open and a 100 imaginary ones open in my head.

Over time I realized something. Everything works on its own. Nothing works together.

That is when the problem became clearer. This isn't a simple access to information problem. This is all about clarity in an already fragmented world.

I did not need more dashboards. I needed fewer tabs. I needed a way to see things in one place, quickly, without having to reconstruct my own research every time. And when I wanted to go a little deeper, I did not want ten metrics. Just a few signals that actually help. like AUM. How the fund compares to its benchmark. CAGR returns over 1/3/5 years. Simple things. But surprisingly hard to see together.

So in true builder fashion, I built something for myself.

Saarthi is a small Chrome extension that shows mutual fund insights while you browse. Instead of asking me to switch apps, it brings the context to where I already am.

I am still very early in this game. But, after the first hundred or so users, one thing has been clear. Most people are not struggling to find data. They are struggling to make sense of it. If the product does not make that easier in a few seconds, they move on.

That has been the biggest learning so far.
